LoL – ELO Hell

I think it’s fair to say that I can consider myself a League of Legends veteran. I started playing right after Ezreal (my favourite champion) was just released, which was maybe over a year ago or so. Ever since then, I’ve just played normal games with friends and didn’t really care much for the competition, I just wanted to have fun. After a bit of time passed, my friends that I played LoL with started talking about the e-sports scene and how LoL was on the rise; talking about the different teams and strategies they used. The LoL competitive scene piqued my interest, and I started learning what I could about the e-sports scene. I felt a hunger for competition, and with each match played, although I was still in it for the fun, I found myself caring more and more about the outcome of the match. Unfortunately, me and my friends are a bunch of vain bastards who care too much about our statistics. We had too much pride in our scores and our win rates, and have always been afraid of playing ranked games due to the amount of negative information floating about it. We didn’t want to play ranked games simply because we were afraid to lose. Not lose because we suck, but lose because of this phenomenon called ELO hell.

LoL – How to carry

Okay, I’m not going sit here and lie. I’ve been steadily losing the past week. I mean seriously, on Tuesday, I played at least about 12 games with Toorc Icefist and we won like twice. It’s horrible. I mean I’m going to ask a question that has plagued every single League of Legends gamer at some point. Why in the hell do the derpmasters always end up on MY team? How come the other team never gets any of these tool bags? I mean, I’m a good player. I’ll even go as far as saying my individual skill as a player is up with the best of them. However, I’m willing to concede that my ability to work in a team, as a team, is probably average at best. I’m guilty of not buying enough wards, I’m guilty of not pinging enough, I’m guilty of missing a few MIA calls, I’m guilty of dropping first blood in some cases and I’m guilty of not communicating with my team enough. My reason for that though, is because I seem to have this unwavering faith regarding the League of Legends community.

LoL – The streak continues

I know exactly what you’re thinking. “Winchesterz, that quote you posted above has NOTHING to do with playing a game of League of Legends, you’re a madman, but a handsome scholar nonetheless.” Well, reader, I say thank you for the compliment, but I will have to proceed to break down your statement by spouting mind-numbing facts that will somehow relate that quote above to the game. I believe I’ve mentioned a few times already that League of Legends is a far deeper game than most people give it credit for. I’m even going to go as far as saying that with some games, I’m very confident it accurately depicts how people would react in a real life situation. I’m going to try to convince you of this fact, are you ready?

LoL – Losing streak

Oh man. I don’t even know how to start this. League of Legends is one of those games where if you’re having a terrible day, don’t even THINK about hopping on to try your luck. This game will eat your soul and spit your remains out. The moment you play a game in which you’re not even close to being in a happy state of mind, your day or night will be straight up ruined. If you believe that playing a game of League of Legends will lift your spirits after a tough day, chances are you’re very wrong and you will end up feeling even more depressed and drained.

LoL – Post match #1

Hello friends! I just finished an extremely epic, ridiculously hectic beast of a game with my friend, Toorc Icefist. The game lasted just over an hour, with our team being on the verge of defeat. First of all, a little introduction on the players. We had me (Winchesterz) as Urgot with Toorc Icefist as Malphite at bottom lane. Then we had random number 1 as Brand playing at mid, random number 2 as Nocturne in jungle and random number 3 as Riven playing in top lane. The enemy team had Ashe, Udyr (this guy is a freaking animal), Blitzcrank, Pantheon and Orianna.

League of Legends

I just had a League of Legends match 10 minutes before posting this. We lost.

Seriously what the hell. I was 500 ping throughout the entire match, but I still ended up with a score of 5/0/2. I mean I don’t claim to be extremely good, but I guess I am a bit of a try-hard in the way that I want to win every game that I play in. Call it a competitive streak, but hey, it is e-sports. You’re not going to get anywhere if you have an “oh well, it’s just a game” mentality. I played as Warwick, a nice werewolf champ that’s currently my favourite. Everyone on my team, my friends in real life, were lagging hard and had 500 ping the entire time. It was lame, as there was nothing we could do once we got in team fights. They sieged us well, they ganked us well, and we basically just got outplayed for all the wrong reasons. They weren’t even that good, we were just lagging. No, seriously!

The first one

Hey people. I’m writing this at 3 am while watching Guardsman Bob’s League of Legends stream. He’s an awesome guy, and I’d love to play a game or two with him.

Okay two sentences in and I’m already sidetracked. It’s a huge problem really, cause I tend to work on these huge tangents that just completely deviate the focus from the main topic at hand. Which I’ve already forgotten, and am now just writing fillers to occupy myself. I can’t sleep, I’ve gotten maybe 15 hours this week in total. Everything that has happened this week has run the course of several natural disasters on my brain. The only thing that has kept me sane throughout this week has been my secret passion: rap battles. Watching Grind Time, King of the Dot and Don’t Flop on youtube has literally been my saving grace most nights. I love watching these lyricists battle it out using clever wordplays, rhymes and just general awesomeness. Some of the bars these rappers drop are just mindblowingly clever; they somehow manage to convey depth, comedy and ridiculously awesome puns all the while managing to diss the opposing rapper. The whole battle scene is amazing to me, and I am a massive fan. I would love to attend one of the King of the Dot / Grind Time events.

The other thing that has kept me sane this week are the League of Legends streams. Mainly Guardsman Bob’s streams. He’s very cool to watch; pulls off extreme plays sometimes and absolutely no douchebagginess, which is a problem in the League of Legends community.

Okay I got sidetracked IMMENSELY. Point is I can’t sleep. It’s 3 am, and most nights I have to resort to just waiting until my body literally shuts down on me and I fall asleep. Then I wake up some hours later, not enough mind you, and I go to work and I do it all over again come night time. There are so many things that run through my mind, I just can’t stop it. Call me emo, call me depressive, call me over-dramatic. It doesn’t matter to me, because I feel what I feel, I feel how I feel and I can’t change that about me. Live it, love it or hate it. Hopefully not the third option.
